RIM announces Blackberry 7 OS

May 23rd, 2011

RIM announces Blackberry 7 OSRIM has officially announced their new Blackberry OS, 7. This comes after they accidentally put up a website talking about the new Blackberry Bold Touch that told a little about the new operating system.

The two new phones that take advantage of this are the Blackberry Bold 9900 and the Blackberry Bold 9930.

The new OS will focus on faster web browsing that will deliver better JavaScript Performance along with support for HTML5, and the UI will also be much simpler and easier to use.

One big thing in the Blackberry OS 7 is the Blackberry balance feature that allows personal content to be separated from corporate content. How this will work is unknown but will be known when the two new phones launch in summer.

Some additional features include voice based searches, wider document support and a better media experience.

Pantech Laser

November 2nd, 2010

Introduction:

Pantech LaserIf there happens to be one handset manufacturer that places a lot of emphasis on producing solid quick messaging devices for AT&T, it has to be none other than Pantech. It was only recently that we began to see them to craft touchscreen devices, with the Pantech Pursuit being their first, but now we might be witnessing the culmination of all their hard work leading up to their latest device – the Pantech Laser P9050. Although it might not resonate widely in the face of some endearing smartphones, the Laser is being dubbed as the thinnest handset in the world to pack a QWERTY keyboard – so it’ll be interesting how it excels in the lucrative quick messaging category.

The package contains:

  • Pantech Laser
  • Travel charger
  • Interactive Tutorial CD
  • Quick Start Guide

Samsung I5510

October 8th, 2010
This is a global GSM phone, it can be used with AT&T and T-Mobile USA, but without 3G.

Introduction:

Samsung has decided to cover all flanks during its Android-led assault on the smartphone markets, introducing handsets in various form factors and price spots. At the IFA 2010 expo, a Samsung i5510 was spotted, boasting Android 2.2 and a physical QWERTY keyboard, in a fairly slim package. Now we have a review unit of the device, and will put it through its paces so you can judge how TouchWiz 3.0 and Froyo get along together on a budget handset.

Design:

The Samsung i5510 is made of the durable, glossy black plastic that the manufacturer uses on a lot of its handsets recently. The 3.2” capacitive touchscreen has 240×400 pixels of resolution. The LCD display is bright and responsive, and the pixel density is enough for everyday tasks.

Samsung Restore

August 26th, 2010

After releasing two entry-level QWERTY feature phones, the Samsung Seek and the LG Remarq, Sprint has released a heavier hitter, the Samsung Restore. Though under the eco-friendly phone banner with the limeade version looking like spring grass, the Samsung Restore is actually a strong mid-tier feature phone that has an excellent QWERTY keyboard, fast 3G EV-DO, good Sprint TV and YouTube performance and a nice music player. Throw in a built-in GPS that works well with Sprint Navigation, full messaging, the Netfront web browser and Sprint’s One Click UI for easy access to social networking, Google and Yahoo! Services, and you’ve got a very nice feature phone at an affordable price (currently $50 with a contract).  The Samsung Restore comes in two colors, Limeade and Midnight.

SONY ERICSON ASPEN REVIEW

August 10th, 2010

Sony Ericsson Aspen

Consider it bad timing for the Sony Ericsson Aspen when it was announced just before the Barcelona-based Mobile World Congress in February 2010, where Microsoft unveiled its next-generation mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7. The Aspen, which runs on Windows Mobile 6.5.3, is one of the last few Windows Mobile (WM) smartphones before Windows Phone 7 launches by the end of this year. What the Sony Ericsson brings to the table is a combination of a touchscreen and standard QWERTY keyboard in a candybar, with green credentials to boot.

Design

Sony Ericsson Aspen ReviewThe Aspen isn’t likely to oust the BlackBerry Bold 9700 or Nokia E72 in the design department. The plasticky outfit is creaky and the curved back makes the Aspen a rather chubby candybar, with a tendency to spin when set on the table. That said, we like the roomy directional pad and the firm, domed buttons on the keyboard. The layout of the latter also sees common punctuations, such as the full stop and comma, getting their own dedicated keys. » Read more: SONY ERICSON ASPEN REVIEW
